BACKGROUND

Engaged for a number of years as skipper and in management in the prawning fisheries of Colombia and Ecuador -- capture, processing and export to the U.S.A.

Later, pioneer in ecotourism to the Galápagos Is., where family had had various interests since 1932. Was the first naturalist-guide in the Galápagos.

During the last years in South America, taught biology and natural sciences in the U.S. Program at the Colegio Americano of Guayaquil (teaching done in English). During this same period taught English at the Berlitz School of Languges -- advanced classes and member of the examination board.

Worked as translator and interpreter for Newham-Techint Joint Venture, on the construction of the 34’’ gas pipeline from Moomba to Sydney (Australia) -- the Techint part of the joint venture consisted mainly of Argentinians and Italians who had lived in Argentine. After completion of job, went to work for Williams Bros.-CMPS Engineers as inspector on the construction of the Wilton-Wollongong 20’’ gas pipeline, mainly in charge of supervising the restoration of the construction areas.

In Norway, since 1978, engaged as departmental manager in a soft furnishing business, becoming later manager of a shop in the same branch.

Also, worked with some writing in English and Spanish -- mainly articles in periodicals: Letras del Ecuador (Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana, Quito); Patria, Revista del Colegio Vicente Rocafuerte, and Vistazo (Guayaquil); Ecos Submarinos (Buenos Aires); Man Magazine (Sydney); Noticias de Galápagos (scientific journal of the Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galápagos Is. -- published in English, despite its Spanish name). Has recently finished a history of the Galápagos Is. in English and Spanish versions, both of which are at the office of the Secretary General of the Darwin Foundation, awaiting funds for publication.

Some botanical work in the Galápagos Is., including the discovery, description and naming of a giant cactus (Opuntia megasperma var. mesophytica J. Lundh), besides several other plant collections.
